End of the YEAR...busy time for japanese people

This is this end of the Year in Japan and everyone is super busy with "end of the Year Parties".Co-workers organise their BONENKAI Party (忘年会 literally "forget the year gathering").It is an informal dinner party where co-workers express their gratitude at the work done together during the year and forget about issues which could have occurred among them.
December is also the month for starting the cleaning of the house and prepare ourselves to a brand new Year !
People put their refuse stuff outside their home and buy brand new equipment...the wardrobes and cupboards are tidied !
NewYear cards are prepared for posting and a special delivery on the morning of NewYear ( OSHOOGATSU) will bring these cards to the mailbox of relatives and friends.It is not polite to have the cards being delayed.
Christmas is not celebrated in this non christian country but it is a good opportunity to meet friends,have a nice dinner in a restaurant and exchange presents !

Oni wa soto ! Fuku wa uchi !　鬼は外、服はうち！
« Dehors les démons ! Dedans le bonheur ! »

La nuit de Setsubun, beaucoup de japonais décore un houx devant leurs maisons avec une tête de sardine, une gousse d'ail et un oignon. Ces talismans sont destinés à tenir le diable à distance.
On pratique le mame-maki:on jette des haricots de soja pour convoquer la fortune et éviter la malchance en criant "Oni wa soto! (dehors les démons) et on en jette à l'intérieur en criant "Fuku wa uchi!"( dedans la fortune).
Certains n'hésitent pas à se déguiser en démons à cette occasion et on les pourchasse en riant et en leur jetant des graines de soja. On fabrique des déguisements et des masques dans les écoles pour porter ce jour là.
Après, chacun mange autant de haricots que son âge afin d'éviter les maladies pendant l'année à venir et s'assurer une longue vie.

As X'mas is approching,we have been relaxing at Kawaii Club.
Have a look at our last session of the Year 2010,wearing kimonos,yukatas and geisha make-up !
This was a fun lesson !
We also talked about how Christmas is celebrated in Japan .It is not a family celebration like in Europe but on the contrary,NewYear celebrations are a very important time.
Cooking special Newyear's meals with the family and going to the shrine at night until the first sun of the year rises...these are of a great importance in japanese life.

Le KABUKI

Le KABUKI est une forme de theatre japonais datant du 17 eme siecle et qui a commençé a EDO ,l’ancienne capitale du Japon.( aujourd’hui c’est Tokyo).

A l’origine,c’etait des troupes de femmes qui jouaient.Leurs pieces etaient tres provocatrices et ont fait scandale.Elles ont été interdites.
Par la suite,ce sont des hommes qui les ont remplacées.Progressivement les jeunes acteurs masculins ont ete remplaçés par des hommes d’age mur car il etait scandaleux de faire jouer des jeux de femmes a des hommes jeunes.
Certains acteurs se sont spécialisés dans le jeu de femmes.
Les themes des pieces de theatre sont toujours dramatiques et certains personnages ont des pouvoirs exceptionnels.
Le jeu est tres codifié.On pratique le Mié: le mouvement de l’acteur est arreté pour lui donner une importance.
La gestuelle est lente.les costumes sont impressionnants et les maquillages exagérés.Le texte est prononçé lentement.
ll faut en moyenne 5 heures de préparation a un acteur: maquillage et costume.
On est acteur de Kabuki de pere en fils.

Distinguished Manga/Anime expert and author of the newly published book Manga Cross Stitch, Helen McCarthy, will present a unique event focusing on cross-stitch designs inspired by Manga and Anime, discussing how the graphic imagery of Manga and Anime can be interpreted in textiles. There will also be the opportunity for participants to create their own cross-stitch pieces with Helen’s guidance.

This event is free to attend but there is a £3 fee to cover the cost of workshop materials, payment is by cash on the day.

La fete des garcons a lieu le cinquieme jour du cinquieme mois de l’année.
Le 5 mai,les familles souhaitent aux jeunes garcons de grandir en bonne santé et de devenir des hommes forts.
Une légende chinoise raconte qu’autrefois une carpe a remonté le courant d’une riviere pour se transformer en un puissant dragon.C’est pour souhaiter de la force et du succes aux petits garcons que l’on accroche des carpes volantes dans les jardins ou aux fenetres.Il y a une carpe pour chacun des garcons de la famille.
Les enfants décorent la maison avec des casques de samourai (kabuto ) et dégustent le KASHIWAMOCHI,gateau de pate de riz fourré de crème de haricots rouges,le tout enveloppé dans une feuille de chene.
